Summer Fun 2019

My list of things to do this summer include work in my profession, yard work and of course baseball.
The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (Independent Baseball) and The Eastern League (MiLB) are in full swing.
Since the start of the season, I have attended about ten Long Island Duck games. It’s been fun! The team is doing well, despite losing about nine pitchers signing contracts with various Major League baseball teams. I always feel like a kid again. The sunshine, the roar of the crowd and having a baseball thrown to me makes for a wonderful event!
My annual visit to the Richmond Virginia this year, takes me again, to see Richmond Flying Squirrels baseball. This year is a little different. They are hosting the Eastern League All-Star Game. This will be only the second one I have ever attended, the first was in 2018 when the Long Island Ducks hosted the Atlantic League All-star Game.
The Flying Squirrels are hosting a four day event 2019 All-Star Celebration, from Sunday, July 7 at Browns Island to kick off the big show. A country music event is scheduled for Monday, July 8. The Home Run Derby is on Tuesday, July 9 and the All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 10.
In-between activities will include enjoy other sites of Virginia and enjoying the company of a very good friend. While this will be my only vacation this year, I will be enjoying the rest of the baseball season watching Long Island Ducks baseball.
Until next time, my friends, enjoy your summer!

Ducks due to rebound after dismal home opener

The Long Island Ducks home opener finally arrived in time for inclement weather. They lost 2 out of three games to the York Revolution, losing the home opener on Friday 6-5, winning on Saturday 8-1 and losing on Sunday 9-0. The bad weather cannot be included as a factor, as the Revs played under the same conditions. The hitting and pitching was the big factor on Saturday, yet Friday and Sundays game, the Revolution dominated both games.

They just did not have their game on for the fans that turned out and stayed throughout the rainy and cold weekend.
All is not to be lost. Their record is 7-3. It’s only 10 game into the season and their are 130 games left. Their new manager Wally Backman has faith in his team and is constantly having the team push themselves to strive for success and is working with many excellent players. He pushes them no harder then he would himself and is diligently pushing players to work on themselves as individuals, while playing as a team. With so many players from the majors, he is trying many techniques to get the core nine starters and styles to bring the team to first place and maintain that winning attitude towards the championship. The Ducks, at this time, are in second place behind the ever tough Somerset Patriots. Hey, it’s still early in the year. The Ducks 20th Anniversary Season just might be their fourth championship season.
The Long Island Ducks continue their home stand on Tuesday May 7 against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. First pitch schedules for 6:35 p.m. Tuesday is a promotional day “Teal Tuesday”, where the Ducks will wear their 20th Anniversary uniforms each Tuesday.

Atlantic League of Professional Baseball Players to start their season this week.

The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball Player will start their season this week.
The Long Island Ducks are in York Pennsylvania playing against York Revolution, during the weekend.

The Long Island Ducks are in their 20th season and will have a season long celebration. Many players in the Atlantic League and the Long Island Ducks have either played in Major League Baseball or have had contracts with Major League teams over the years.
It’s been a wonderful twenty years for them. They have 12 playoff berths, 7 division (Liberty) titles and 3 Atlantic League Championships. In 2018 they won the Liberty Division Title, Championship winners in 2004, 2012 and 2013.

In 2018 they hosted the 2018 Allstar Game. That was very exciting! It was quite a battle. The Liberty Division beat the Freedom Division 4-3, with Somerset Patriots infielder Alfredo Rodriguez lifting the Liberty Division to the win. He was named the All-Star MVP. This year should prove to be more exciting as many spectacular events are planned to celebrate the Twentieth Year!

The Long Island Ducks will have their home opener on May 3, 2019.
