The Long Island Ducks won game one of a five game series on Tuesday night 7-5.
The Ducks came out ready to play and erupted for 5 runs against Skeeters starter Mike Hauschild. Lew Ford singled in an rbi, Deibinson Romero detonated a bomb to left center for a 3 run round tripper and David Washington cracked a solo shot very deep to centerfield.
The Ducks became a little unraveled, when the Skeeters brought the game to 5-2 in the third inning, off pitcher Vin Mazzaro, who let the Skeeters score on a wild pitch, Zack Borenstein had an rbi single. Cody Stanley’s ground out brought in another run, bringing the Skeeters within 2 runs, making the score 5-3.
David Washington’s colossal solo home run and Steve Lombardozzi’s sac fly brought in 2 more runs in the third inning.
The Skeeters came within 2 in the eighth, bringing them a run on a throwing error and a long ball by by Denis Phipps.
That is all the Skeeters could do, as the Ducks went on to win by a final score of 7-3.
Game 2 is slated for 6:35 p.m., Wednesday October 2, 2019.
