The Long Island Ducks home opener finally arrived in time for inclement weather. They lost 2 out of three games to the York Revolution, losing the home opener on Friday 6-5, winning on Saturday 8-1 and losing on Sunday 9-0. The bad weather cannot be included as a factor, as the Revs played under the same conditions. The hitting and pitching was the big factor on Saturday, yet Friday and Sundays game, the Revolution dominated both games.
They just did not have their game on for the fans that turned out and stayed throughout the rainy and cold weekend.
All is not to be lost. Their record is 7-3. It’s only 10 game into the season and their are 130 games left. Their new manager Wally Backman has faith in his team and is constantly having the team push themselves to strive for success and is working with many excellent players. He pushes them no harder then he would himself and is diligently pushing players to work on themselves as individuals, while playing as a team. With so many players from the majors, he is trying many techniques to get the core nine starters and styles to bring the team to first place and maintain that winning attitude towards the championship. The Ducks, at this time, are in second place behind the ever tough Somerset Patriots. Hey, it’s still early in the year. The Ducks 20th Anniversary Season just might be their fourth championship season.
The Long Island Ducks continue their home stand on Tuesday May 7 against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. First pitch schedules for 6:35 p.m. Tuesday is a promotional day “Teal Tuesday”, where the Ducks will wear their 20th Anniversary uniforms each Tuesday.
